Drivers along the coast this weekend will face long detours and delays due to emergency repairs to Necarney Creek Bridge on U.S. 101 near Oswald West State Park at milepost 39.5.

The Oregon Department of Transportation said in a recent release that crews will start emergency work on the bridge 7 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 and keep the road closed through 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22.

Workers will be removing concrete that is hanging below the bridge.

Traffic can detour around the closure by using OR 53 (a twisting local road not recommended for large vehicles) to U.S. 26 or head south on U.S. 101 to Tillamook and use OR 6 to access the valley.

Travelers driving U.S. 26 near the coast should expect long delays in both directions. ODOT is also working at the Little Humbug Creek Bridge, about 8 miles east of U.S. 101 at milepost 8.2, where there are single lane closures all hours and days through the end of September.

Sewer work delays weekend traffic on U.S. 26 near Zoo Weekend drivers on U.S. 26 (Sunset Highway) will see delays in both directions as city sewer work closes lanes near exit 72.

The City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services will be replacing 800 feet of large diameter brick sewer pipes located underneath the highway near the Oregon Zoo exit. Exit 72 will remain open during the work, but one eastbound and one westbound lane will be closed 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20-23.

This work is expected to cause significant traffic delays. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes or take public transit when possible. Work is currently scheduled for the same hours Sept. 27 – 30.
