High schooler arrested for threatening mass shooting, Metro police say
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A student from Pearl Cohn High School was taken into custody Friday morning after reportedly making a threat over social media.
The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) said a 16-year-old student messaged "an egregious threat to commit a mass shooting on Instagram." The principal received screenshots of the messages on Thursday, Nov. 14.
The student was identified as the owner of the Instagram account. Then, on Friday, Nov. 15, the Rapid School Safety Team arrested the teen when he arrived at Pearl Cohn High, where he confessed to making the threat, according to authorities.
Police said the 16-year-old is charged in Juvenile Court with making a threat of mass violence and false reporting.
"Threats against schools, special events and businesses are taken very seriously by the MNPD," officials said. "Those responsible, once identified, will be prosecuted."
