Both teams might have the best records, but they are still in the thick of their division championship races.

The Buccaneers are coming off a hard-fought loss on Monday Night Football. On the road against the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, Baker Mayfield and company did what they could to keep up with Patrick Mahomes. However, a couple of unfortunate calls that did not go Tampa's way led to a 30-24 overtime loss, extending the Bucs' losing skid to three games. If there is a silver lining, each of Tampa's recent losses has come against teams currently sitting in playoff spots.

However, two of them have come at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons, the team the Buccaneers sit two games back for first in the NFC South.

The 49ers come into Sunday after having a week off. One could argue that the defending NFC champions needed it, despite pulling out a win over the Dallas Cowboys before hitting the break, the pause might serve as a good reset for San Francisco. They had a bumpy stretch in 2023 before going on a run that led to them losing to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

In the wild NFC West, the Niners sit tied for second in the division, a half-game back of the Arizona Cardinals.

The 49ers are 20-7 against the Buccaneers, including winning each of the last three meetings.
