Investigation underway after pet rabbits killed at Ahwatukee preschool

AHWATUKEE, AZ (AZFamily) —An investigation is underway after three school rabbits were reportedly killed on Friday.

It happened at the God's Garden Preschool of Ahwatukee near Loop 202 and Liberty Lane, just west of 24th Street.

According to the school, two rabbits, Ruby and Charlie, have been with the preschool for a few years and their baby, named Sunny, was born last November.

Details are limited; the school says someone appeared to have broken into the playground after staff left for the day. Phoenix police say the rabbits were killed while in a cage within their fenced yard between Thursday night and Friday morning.

The preschool said in a Facebook post that its main priority is safety and that, for the time being, all doors, including the doors to and from the playground, will remain locked.

Police say there are currently no suspects and an investigation is ongoing.
