Irish weather: Outbreaks of rain on Sunday but wintery weather on the way

A.Kim3 months ago

Colder conditions are on the way, with an increased chase of frost and icy patches next week, Met Éireann has said.

While Sunday will remain relatively mild, with temperatures of between 8 and 12 degrees today, next week will be “progressively colder” and wintery rain could hit parts of the country.

Today will begin mostly cloudy across the country with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Scattered showers will spread across many areas as the day goes on. Lowest overnight temperatures for tonight will be between 3 and 7 degrees.

Many parts of the country will see cool and clear conditions on Monday with sunny spells in places. There will be some isolated showers in the afternoon, especially over Leinster. Highest daytime temperatures for tomorrow will be between 6 and 10 degrees.

Widespread frost will set in on Monday night with icy patches possible. Lowest overnight temperatures tomorrow night will fall to between -2 to +2 degrees.

While a few showers are possible in the west and northwest on Tuesday, most counties will experience a dry day with sunshine. Highest temperatures for Tuesday will be between 5 and 8 degrees and lowest overnight temperatures of between -2 to +3 degrees.

The dry and sunny conditions are not expected to remain into Wednesday with Met Éireann forecasting a cloudier day with the chance of longer spells of rain. Temperatures for Wednesday will be between 4 and 7 degrees, with temperatures falling to between -2 and +2 degrees overnight.

Thursday will be a cold day with plenty of sunshine in the west. Counties in the east however will see cloudier conditions with scattered showers. Afternoon temperatures of between 2 and 6 degrees are forecast.

Friday and Saturday are expected to be dry and bright with some scattered showers in parts.

"Current indications suggest a good deal of dry and bright weather in a cold northerly airflow for the first few days of meteorological winter,” Met Éireann said.

"Scattered showers mainly confined to northern, western and eastern coasts. Uncertainty increases from Sunday, however.”
