It’ll be a wet and soggy weekend in Kansas City. When will it finally feel like fall?

Kansas Citians can expect warmer weather Friday before another chance of storms overnight and a rainy weekend ahead, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City.

Temperatures across the Kansas City metro will hover in the high 80s and low 90s on Friday. Then another chance of showers and thunderstorms could produce widespread rainfall throughout the weekend, with the majority of rain possibly coming Saturday night into Sunday, the weather service said.

Off-and-on showers are likely Saturday, with a high near 87 degrees. But the majority of rain could come Saturday evening into Sunday, the weather service predicts. Widespread rain up to three inches is possible in some areas.

A chance for severe thunderstorms over the weekend remains minimal and becomes less likely as conditions gradually become less supportive for severe weather, the weather service said in its Friday forecast discussion .

After initial predictions of thunderstorms around Kansas City Thursday night, the storms stayed mostly south of the metropolitan area.

Overnight Saturday into Sunday, there is a slight risk of flash flooding, though recent drought conditions keep the risk low, the weather service said.

Cooler fall weather in next week's KC forecast

After an unusually warm September, cooler fall weather will arrive as temperatures settle in the 60s and 70s next week.

Kansas City typically sees temperatures around 78 degrees this time of year, according to the NWS.

Temperatures begin their decline on Sunday, when the high is expected to be around 72 degrees. Showers are possible throughout the day.

Then Monday will produce mostly cloudy and dry conditions with a high around 65 degrees. Tuesday's high is expected to be around 71 degrees.
