LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Jackson County law enforcement officials are closing in on the person or people responsible for 30 dead cats found in an apartment complex dumpster Tuesday.

"We were able to get a good lead on where these cats came from," Lydia Sattler, director of Jackson County Animal Control and Shelter, tells 6 News.

Officials from the department responded to a call Tuesday of dead cats in a dumpster. Officer Jeffrey Lang responded to the Abbey Villa apartments. There, he discovered multiple trash bags with deceased cats in them.

Officer Shawn Lutz responded as well and helped Lang collect the bags and transport them to the shelter.

There Lutz and Sattler inventoried the bags.

Sattler says the investigation has been fast-moving.

This is a developing story.
