Joseph Paul Gaylo, age 51, passed away suddenly in his home on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. He was born February 21, 1973, in Canandaigua, N.Y., to George and Frances (Spinelli) Gaylo.

Joe will be loved and missed by his mother, Frances (Spinelli) Gaylo; his sister, Christine (Gaylo) Farrell and her husband, Patrick; his sister, Lisa (Gaylo) Waite and her husband, Jeff; his nieces and nephews, Daniel, Ryan and Leah Farrell and Andrew, Austin and Emily Waite; his aunts, uncles and cousins and all his wonderful friends.

Joe graduated from Fairport High School in 1991. He received his BS in Horticulture Management from the University of Delaware and then received his BS in Nursing from the University of Buffalo. He later served in the Air Force Reserves.

His passions were his family, animals (dogs and a recent interest in cats), landscaping, sports and helping others. His love for helping others led him to choose a career in nursing. He was employed as a Registered Nurse by the UVA Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital. There he formed many friendships with co-workers and used his knowledge, silly humor and kind heart in working with patients.

Joe had a passion for sports and loved discussing all aspects of it in great detail with family and friends. He was a passionate Syracuse fan and loved attending games with his parents, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, George P. Gaylo (Pops); and his four grandparents, Celia and Daniel Spinelli and Mary and Frank Gaylo, whom he loved with all his heart.

Joe leaves an empty hole that will never be filled. His smile and one-of-a-kind personality will never be forgotten.

A calling hour will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024, in the Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St., in Auburn, N.Y., from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. with his Mass of Christian burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, also in Auburn.
