Sports NBA Insider Provides Latest Paul George Update Before Philadelphia 76ers Opener

A lot of eyes are on the Philadelphia 76ers heading into the 2024-25 season. The Sixers are being considered as Championship contenders after adding Paul George on a four-year, $212 million deal over the offseason. Other than that, players like Caleb Martin, Andre Drummond and a few others have also been brought in.

The 76ers are set to open their season against strong opposition in the form of the Milwaukee Bucks. There are serious doubts as to whether the Sixers will be anywhere near full strength on the night though.

Their headline signing of the summer, George, suffered a bone bruise injury in a preseason game against the Atlanta Hawks.

The good news for 76ers fans is that the injury is not a very serious one. But George's status for the season opener against the Bucks remains up in the air.

In a video posted by NBA on ESPN on X, Shams Charania stated that George will be re-evaluated the day before the 76ers' season opener against the Bucks and "there is a level of uncertainty going into that game" for the 34-year-old.

It is hard to predict how long it will take before George is fit to return to the court. But all indications suggest that it should be soon, even if not on the opening night of the season for the Sixers.

Unfortunately for the 76ers, George is not the only star player whose fitness they will have to keep an eye on throughout the season. It is the same case for Joel Embiid as well.

Embiid won't be involved in preseason games and he had limited involvement during training camp as well. So, there are question marks over whether he will be ready in time to take on the Bucks in the season opener.

Of course, the situation is not ideal. But the 76ers' focus has to be on making sure that the likes of George and Embiid reach the playoffs in as healthy a condition as possible. If that means that they will miss a good chunk of games during the regular season, that is something the organization have to be ready to deal with.
