$500K for Galilee Church to become Community Lighthouse up for vote
CADDO PARISH, La. ( KTAL/KMSS ) – The Caddo Parish Commission will consider using American Rescue Plan dollars to fund another Community Lighthouse Project .
The commission will consider Commissioner Roy Burrell's motion to allocate $500,000 to Galilee Baptist Church to construct a Community Lighthouse.
This turns churches into public shelters during natural disasters by equipping the building with large-scale solar panels, backup batteries, and generators to supply electricity during mass outages.

Two churches, Morning Star Baptist Church and the Highland Center, were previously selected after the deadly winter storm in 2021 and a city-wide power outage in 2023. Commissioner Burrell said Galilee is a historic pillar of the Allendale community and would serve as an appropriate location.
The motion was approved by four ayes, one nay, and two abstaining during the last commission meeting. The commission will meet on Thursday inside government chambers.
