A teenager is dead following a shooting in the Oldham Farms neighborhood of Kansas City Wednesday night.

Kansas City police officers responded to an apartment building in the 7500 block of E 85th Terrace around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a Kansas City Police Department spokesperson.

Responding officers were directed to a grassy area within the apartment complex, where they discovered the teen unresponsive on the ground with gunshot wounds, Gonzalez said. Emergency medical responders transported the shooting victim to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim was between 15 and 18 years old, according to Gonzalez. Police believe the shooting was the end result of an altercation among multiple people, with multiple shots being fired.

Police have not identified a person of interest in the shooting, and no arrests were made Wednesday night, according to Gonzalez.

Wednesday's shooting was the 135th homicide reported in Kansas City in 2024, according to data collected by The Star. At this time last year, 164 homicides had been reported in the city.

The Philippines said on Wednesday it would not stand in the way if former President Rodrigo Duterte wants to surrender to the International Criminal Court, and would be obliged to comply with any international arrest warrant over his "war on drugs". During a congressional hearing on Wednesday into the bloody crackdown on narcotics that killed thousands of Filipinos, the mercurial Duterte said he was not scared of the ICC and told it to "hurry up" on its investigation into possible crimes against humanity. The office of the current President Ferdinand Marcos Jr issued a statement hours later indicating it would be willing to consider handing Duterte over if an Interpol request was made.
