Karl Bohnak launches general election campaign

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - A U.P. Republican running for a state House seat kicked off his general election campaign Wednesday morning.

Karl Bohnak is challenging incumbent Democrat Jenn Hill in the 109th State House District.

Bohnak explained how he plans to reach undecided voters during his campaign kickoff event.

The Republican says he and his team plan to go door-to-door to talk to the community.

The former TV meteorologist says his goal is to ensure hard-working families can afford to live in the U.P.

"We want to communicate to people that we are running for the Upper Peninsula," Bohnak said. "We are running for the people of the Upper Peninsula to amplify our voice down in Lansing and to make sure that our values are properly represented down there."

Bohnak also says he believes the state's new clean energy laws his opponent Hill supports will cause the U.P. to lose population.

In a statement, Hill says:

"I have never been more fired up to be in this race so that I can continue to fight for working families in the U.P. Voters have made it clear that they want a candidate who will build a brighter future, and not one who will drag us backward. That's why I have dedicated my career to lowering costs for working families, building a strong local economy, investing in schools and public safety, and ensuring that the U.P. has a strong voice in Lansing. The choice this fall could not be more clear. I am the only candidate in this race that will put our future first."
