Lehigh Valley IronPigs expect to be tops in minor league baseball attendance

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Lehigh Valley IronPigs baseball officials said Friday they expect the team to finish first in total attendance in all of minor league baseball this year.

The team said it expects near-capacity crowds "to close out a wildly successful 2024 season" when it starts its final three games of the season tonight, Friday, Sept. 20, at its home Coca-Cola Park.

It would be the second consecutive season and fourth time overall the IronPigs have led all of MiLB in total attendance, capturing that title in 2011, 2012 and 2023.

"Coming into the final weekend, and with projected strong sales and a positive weather forecast, the IronPigs will likely overtake the Indianapolis Indians for the top attendance spot," the team said in a news release.

It said it anticipates finishing with more than 588,000 people coming through the gates at Coca-Cola Park this season.

Games are scheduled against the Worcester Red Sox tonight, with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch; at 6:35 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 21; and 1:05 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22.

"Beautiful weather is anticipated for the entire weekend, making for ample photographic opportunities," the release says.

Since the team's inception in 2008, the IronPigs have never finished lower than eighth in minor league baseball in total or average attendance.

The team — AAA affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies — has ranked in the Top 5 in both categories for 13 of its 16 seasons.
