Lewisville Seeks Feedback On $5 Million Affordable Housing Proposal

The city of Lewisville is inviting public feedback on its grant application for the Pathways to Removing Obstacles to Housing (PRO Housing) program, which will be submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

A public hearing will take place during the city council's regular meeting on Monday, Oct. 7, at 6:30 p.m. at Lewisville City Hall, located at 151 W. Church Street. Those who wish to share their input but are not able to attend the meeting can fill out a comment form here . According to the city , on Sept. 19, 2022, the city of Lewisville established a public facility corporation (PFC), comprising the city council, city manager and city secretary. The affordable housing review committee engaged with developers interested in affordable housing, leading to the approval of a mixed housing project at the first PFC meeting on March 6, 2023.

In November 2022, the council adopted the unified development code to streamline processes for affordable residential development. Efforts such as this aim to identify and address community barriers to affordable housing, focusing on limited land availability, aging properties and misconceptions about affordable housing options.

Three city departments — economic development, planning and neighborhood and inspection services — have formed an affordable housing review committee. This committee began meeting regularly after the establishment of the PFC to evaluate potential affordable housing projects from developers seeking partnerships. It ensures that these projects align with city goals and address community needs for affordable housing.

The approved PFC project will feature a mix of multifamily units, townhomes and cottages, offering diverse housing options and income levels. It will include 51% of units at or below 80% of area median income (AMI), with the remaining 49% designated as market rate. Construction is set to begin in March 2025.
