SHREVEPORT, La. ( KTAL/KMSS )—Lewis Avallone, Co-host of American Ground radio and former Caddo Parish Republican Party Chairman, says that with inflation on voters' minds, it is no surprise that former president Donald Trump's message to Americans resonated in Louisiana.

"Certainly, Caddo parish has one of the highest poverty rates in the country, and so we need real relief for the least among us to be able to afford their rent, afford the car note, be able to make payments on their credit card debt," said Lewis R. Avallone.

Democratic State Representative Steven Jackson shares his thoughts.

"You know what, people, the message that I got yesterday from the results across the nation, not just in Louisiana, was people are more concerned about their finances than they are about somebody's personality," said State Representative District 2 Steven Jackson.

They say while they believe inflation and the cost of living topped the list of concerns for voters, now that Republicans have the majority of the House and Senate the party will push for more conservative values.

"You have the speaker of the house, Mike Johnson, and you've got the majority leader, Steve Scalise, as well," Avallone said.

In terms of Louisiana politics.

"So there are very good things coming for Louisiana and certainly, Jeff Landry, Governor Jeff Landry's association with President Trump and Don Junior as well – is well known and I, I just think there's a, a tremendous number of alliances that will be setting Louisiana up for explosive growth in the years to come." said Lewis R. Avallone. "Caddo Republican and democratic leadership share their thoughts on how Donald Trump was elected and what it means for the state of Louisiana.

"Why you saw a lot of people voting for President Trump is they felt that, you know, he had a better economic plan, they felt that he might have been better with the border," Jackson said.

As far as the increase in the Hispanic vote for Trump.

"I think it indicates that the Hispanic vote in this country is as American is as diverse as any among the voters in this country," said Lewis R. Avallone.

And the peaceful transfer of power.

But you know, Kamala Harris, Vice President Harris, she put up the best fight that she could in 100 what, 150 – 160 days, you know, the results are what they are and, and, and she's accepted them she conceded with grace," Jackson said.
