Maryland 2024 Volunteer Fire Assistance grants help local firefighters enhance wildfire protection

BALTIMORE, MD—The Maryland Department of Natural Resources Forest Service has awarded Volunteer Fire Assistance grants to 55 volunteer fire departments across 18 counties in the state to help enhance wildland fire protection in rural communities, according to a press release.

The grants were given to 55 volunteer fire departments out of 64 that applied for funding from the Maryland Forest Service. The departments applied for a total of $403,686 in project costs, and the Forest Service awarded $159,234 in match funding to help complete $331,551 in projects statewide, with the maximum grant awarded being $3,500 per department.

The funds for the grants are provided by the USDA Forest Service, according to the press release.
