Incident occurred in transient encampment in San Luis Obispo
– San Luis Obispo Police arrested a man on charges of attempted murder and domestic violence after a woman was found with severe injuries on Tuesday. Officers responded to a report of a woman with facial injuries in the area of Prado Road and Higuera Street. An investigation revealed she had been severely beaten by her boyfriend, identified as Albert Jason Lucas II, 53, a transient in San Luis Obispo. Lucas fled before officers arrived, and the woman was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Officers later located Lucas near Elks Lane and Prado Road, where they arrested him without incident. Lucas was reportedly in possession of evidence related to the assault, which police say took place in a transient encampment near a creek behind the 3100 block of South Higuera Street.
Lucas was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on several charges, including domestic violence with a prior conviction, torture causing great bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon, violating a domestic violence restraining order with a prior conviction, domestic violence during the commission of a felony, making terrorist threats, probation violation, and possession of a controlled substance.
On Thursday, police consulted with the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney's Office, and Lucas was arraigned on additional charges of attempted murder, dissuading a witness by force or threat, and false imprisonment. He is being held without bail and will remain in custody.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are seeking assistance from anyone who may have witnessed the assault, which occurred between midnight and 6 a.m. on Nov. 5. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Marques at (805) 594-8060.
