Sherrone Jackson, 27, a resident of Sarasota County, was dropped off by a ride-share service near the intersection of 68th Street W and 12th Avenue W. around 10:45 p.m. on Oct. 29.

Jackson intended to pick up a spare key left in the mailbox of a nearby home and return to Sarasota County using another ride-share, the sheriff's office said. Information provided to detectives indicates that he was still waiting for the ride-share at 11:55 p.m.

At 1:45 a.m., a passerby found Jackson unconscious near the intersection. Doctors determined Jackson sustained a traumatic brain injury, but the cause is unknown, investigators said.

Jackson, who never regained consciousness, died from his injuries on Wednesday.

At the time of his injury, Jackson wore black Nike shorts, a white tank top, black slide sandals and a red trucker-style hat with "Badlands" written on the front.

Anyone who saw Jackson the night of Oct. 29 or noticed anything unusual in the area is asked to contact Det. William Mulligan at or 941-932-9313.
