Marianna man killed in single vehicle crash

JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash in Jackson County on Saturday morning.

According to a news release, around 11 a.m. a 46-year-old man driving a sedan from Marianna was traveling southbound on Old U.S. Road near Oakwood Drive. He entered a left-hand curve and continued straight.

The driver left the roadway to the right, traveling onto the grass shoulder and then onto a property. While continuing southbound, he struck the raised driveway of a property and went airborne, FHP officials said.

The sedan then landed on the ground and continued southbound onto the property of 3407 Old U.S. Road and struck a large standing tree. Troopers said after impact with the tree, he continued southbound.

The front of the vehicle then hit a small standing tree causing the vehicle to rotate, and the driver to be ejected, troopers wrote.

The driver was located south of the vehicle and transported to Southeast Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama where he was pronounced deceased.

Three people were hurt aboard a single-engine plane that crashed Sunday near a Southern California dragstrip where fans were gathered for the finals of a racing event, authorities said. At least two parked vehicles on the ground were struck when the Piper PA-32 crashed around 11:40 a.m. near the dragstrip in Pomona, about 30 miles (50 kilometers) east of downtown Los Angeles, the Federal Aviation Administration said. The crash happened while the plane was apparently attempting to land at nearby Brackett Field Airport, according to a statement posted by the National Hot Rod Association, or NHRA.
