A mother of six children was found guilty of child neglect after the death of one of them in 2022, a Maryland judge announced on Wednesday following a seven-day trial.

On May 10, 2022, officials responded to the Montgomery Village home of 41-year-oldCynthia Moore, a mother of six children, for the report of an unresponsive child. When officials went inside the home, they found that the family was living in unsafe and unsanitary conditions. The unresponsive child, a 17-year-old, later lost their life, officials said.

Following an officials' investigation into the child's death, Cynthia and her husband, Dominique Moore, were arrested and indicted in 2023. They both were charged with second-degree depraved-heart murder, involuntary manslaughter and child neglect.

Officials said that Cynthia faces up to 30 years in prison and her sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 22, 2025. Meanwhile, Dominique is scheduled for trial on Nov. 4, 2024.

"We stand by the charges filed by the State in this case and are disappointed with this verdict. We will reserve further comment at this time as there is still a co-defendant with pending charges," said Lauren DeMarco, spokesperson for the State's Attorney's Office.
