Mexico's diverse cuisine shines at Tlahco Mexican Kitchen

E.Wright1 hr ago

Following his move to San Antonio, Zacatecas native Julio Garcia knew he wanted to open his own authentic Mexican restaurant.

His dream was realized on September 15, 2019 when Tlahco Mexican Kitchen first opened its doors. Translating to "middle" in the Nahuatl language of the Aztecs of Central Mexico, Tlahco is anything but average, with a vast assortment of dishes paying tribute to Garcia's central Mexican roots.

It was apt that Tlahco opened its doors during Hispanic Heritage Month — the national celebration takes place from September 15 to October 15, paying homage to the awe-inspiring and diverse array of achievements that Hispanic Americans have accomplished, past and present.

When it comes to food itself, Tlahco prides itself on being anything but ordinary. A representative for Tlahco explained to MySA via email that the kitchen's menu is a culinary homage to various regions in Mexico.

From cochinita pibil from Yucatan, traditional enchiladas, birria from Garcia's hometown of Zacatecas, and more, Tlahco has affordable breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Speaking of breakfast, Tlahco has a wide variety of sweet panqueques — from cajeta, Nutella, and even the traditional buttermilk options, complete with maple syrup and fresh butter.

Every dish is made fresh for guests, the representative added, recommending that guests with a sweet tooth order the conchas con nata. The conchas are delivered fresh and hot to the table, with Tlahco's scratch-made, sweet cream spread.

Tlahco also has a hearty parrillada spread, complete with scratch-made tortillas, tortas, street tacos, sopes and more.

"If you don't visit Tlahco you have missed out on eating authentic Mexican food, so don't think twice and we will be waiting to delight you with a good time and delicious food!" the representative concluded

Here's to many more years, Tlahco.
