MICHIGAN — Some parts of Michigan can see up to 10 inches of snow through Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The heaviest snow will fall in the Upper Peninsula, particularly in the eastern half where forecasters expect between 6 and 10 inches of fresh snow through Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

There are winter storm warnings in effect for areas around Munising, Grand Marais, Newberry and Ironwood.

Forecasters expect between 4 and 8 inches of snow in some portions of northern Michigan, especially in areas around Traverse City and Gaylord, according to the National Weather Service.

Roughly an inch of fresh snow is expected in the metro Detroit area through Sunday as high temperatures rise into the mid 30s, according to the National Weather Service.

Most of the snowfall in the metro area will stick to grassy areas, but forecasters warned lake effect snow will increase Sunday evening between the Interstate 69 and Interstate 94 corridors, according to the National Weather Service.

The lake effect snow showers will have potential bursts of snow that can reduce visibility to less than one mile and quickly accumulate on roadways, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters expect the light snow showers in the Detroit area to linger into Monday morning, before fading away sometime during the afternoon and evening hours, according to the National Weather Service.
