Here’s the always updated radar. Watch the area of light snow build some this afternoon over southeast Lower Michigan.

Radar only shows you what has happened and what is happening right now. The following model forecast shows how the radar should change over time this afternoon and evening.

So note that through this afternoon and evening light snow should become widespread over the Ann Arbor area, the Detroit area, Flint, Saginaw, Bay City and the Thumb. The west side of Lower Michigan will have off and on spurts of snow through the middle of tonight. By Monday morning snow will be isolated over Lower Michigan and still heavy over the northern Upper Peninsula.

There will be some additional accumulation. The additional snow over southeast Lower will be light. The snow over part of northwest Lower and the Upper Peninsula will be heavier.

Total additional snow from 1:00 p.m. Sunday to 4:00 a.m. Monday.NOAA

Look for another one inch of snow for the eastern half of Lower Michigan. The more snowy area around Grand Rapids should have another one to two inches of additional snow. From Pentwater and Ludington north to Cadillac and Traverse City to far northern Lower Michigan should have another two inches at least to as much as four inches this afternoon through Monday morning. The western U.P. could have another three to six inches of snow.

Temperatures this afternoon will varying a lot depending on if you are in a vigorous snow period. When the snow is falling heavier, the temperature will drop to freezing or just below. So be careful on the roads this afternoon and tonight. It won’t be a snowstorm by winter standards for most of Lower Michigan. It will be the first time for most of Michigan where we could slip and slide. Temperatures will gradually turn colder during the day Monday. Roads may not improve a lot with melting during Monday’s daylight.
