More people voted in McLennan and Bell County than ever before
Waco, TX ( FOX 44 ) — McLennan County Election Administrator Jared Goldsmith says his office spent the day answering questions from voters and poll workers in an effort to make sure everything was running smoothly.
"A lot of what we saw yesterday was on that side. There's some side support that we do as well to make sure that all of these sites are up and running and have everything that they need," says Goldsmith.
He tells us that, for the most part, there were no bumps in the road. In the end, their operation facilitated a historically high voter turnout in the county.
"We had a lot of voters in McLennan County. I believe we had the most who have ever voted in an election," says Goldsmith. "So we had over 100,000 people cast a ballot here in McLennan County, which is very exciting, very good."
Over in Bell County, there was just as much activity as poll workers made sure everything ran smoothly.
"For the first hour, we were very, very busy. Then things sort of calmed down," says Bell County Public Information Officer James Stafford. "I think everyone sort of got and got into the groove for most of the day. Then it started to ramp back up again around the 4 o'clock hour."
In case of any problems with the machines or ballots, the Bell County Voters Office was prepared.
"Every now and then there'd be a site that might have a problem with one machine, but they all had spare machines for that exact purpose so they could keep lines moving," says Stafford.
Bell County had over 29,000 people vote in person.
