JUNCTION CITY, Ky. (WKYT) - Three people were taken to the hospital after a race car flipped into the stands at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, two cars crashed at around 10:30 p.m. Friday. The driver was not hurt. Three spectators were taken to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Race Director Brad Ferguson told WKYT that one of the cars flipped into the crowd.

Ferguson says they're working to make improvements to make the track safer. Ponderosa Speedway will be back up and running in time for their next scheduled race this Friday.

In a Facebook post Saturday morning, Ponderosa Speedway said, "Ponderosa Speedway and staff prioritizes the safety and well-being of our drivers, teams, and spectators. Ponderosa Speedway wants to thank all the first responders and emergency personnel for their quick reaction and the professionalism. We will provide updates as more information comes available."
