Myles Garrett’s status during Friday’s practice after missing 2 days with his foot injury

BEREA, Ohio - Myles Garrett was back on the practice field on Friday after sitting out Wednesday and Thursday with his foot injury as the Browns gear up for Sunday's visit from the Giants.

Garrett was bothered by the foot during last Sunday's 18-13 victory in Jacksonville, but still managed to play more snaps than any other defensive lineman, 41 or 68% of the total.

Garrett is expected to play against the Giants and mobile quarterback Daniel Jones, even if he's somewhat limited. His status will be updated after practice, but he was possibly limited.

"There's no secret we're battling a lot of injuries up front," defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz said Thursday. "We've had a lot of guys miss a lot of time in training camp and preseason and things like that, and they're all battling. They're all working really hard to get out there and things like that. Like last week, we were able to have Isaiah McGuire up. And he didn't play a lot, but he was effective when he played. Had some really good rushes for us and you just got to get contributions all across the line and other guys have to pick it up.

  • "You know, Myles is still Myles. He gets a one-on-one and he — sack strip. It's just getting him those one-on-ones and finding the other complimentary rushers is sort of where we are right now. But he's battling."

The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Garrett managed his second strip-sack in as many games when he raked the ball out of Trevor Lawrence's hand. Also for the second straight week, the opponent recovered, but he's getting close to his first takeaway of the season.

His freakish athletic ability hasn't been lost on Giants' pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux, who led the Giants with 11.5 sacks last season to tie for 12th in the NFL.

"You either have a lot of talent, or you have a lot of skill, or you're Myles Garrett," Thibodeaux told reporters in New York. "And he's a guy who is a Hall of Famer. He's a guy I looked up to coming out of high school. And he's going to continue to dominate the league for a long time. And definitely look at his game and try to model mine after him."

It's Garrett's motor that has impressed Thibodeaux the most.

"He's relentless, whether it's run, whether it's pass, the moves he uses," he said. "He's a lot bigger than me, but when you still just talk about the mindset that he gives to the game, with his preparation, his body, film and everything else, he's really a pro."

In other practice notes, defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson was back in action Friday after getting a veteran day of rest on Thursday.

The Browns will continue to rotate a lot of defensive linemen to keep them fresh in general, but also because game time temperatures are expected to be in the 80s.

Jones, who was sacked five times in the opening-day loss to the Vikings but only once last week by the Commanders, knows he must be on the lookout for 95.

"He's a good player and has the ability to affect the game from a pass rush standpoint and the run game also," he said. "You've got to have a plan, a protection plan. Luckily, we've got (tackle) AT (Andrew Thomas). AT is an incredible player, and we're very confident in that matchup."
