NE Bexar County property still a dump site; officials still have yet to reach owner

SAN ANTONIO-New information on a northeast Bexar County property overrun with trash, animals, and a squatter. We first showed you the mess back in September and wanted to know if county officials ever got a hold of the owner to clean it up! There's been little to no change on that property leaving neighbors beyond frustrated.

It's been 2 months since we reported on this. If anything the property is worse and there is now a semi-truck parked on the public street

"Mariza Mendoza: Has the county made any progress with cleaning this up?

Thomas Brown: "Zero, zero progress."

That's the conversation I had Monday with nearby property owner Tom Brown. I know firsthand the frustration Thomas Brown feels because when I last brought you this story a few months ago, I reached out to Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Calvert. He referred me back to the Bexar County Environmental Services Department.

"This has been going on for 5 years, status quo," says Brown.

Brown owns the two properties that border this residential home lot in the 6400 block of Jenny Drive. He's invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in those properties and he's discouraged with the current situation. I reached out to county officials who sent me this statement:

"Bexar County made repeated attempts to establish communication with the property owner, who has failed to appear for scheduled court hearings. As a result, the County is committed to exploring every available avenue to address this matter and is actively evaluating alternative solutions to bring it to a resolution."

"You've probably been more helpful than the one year I've spent on the phone back and forth with the case officer who was assigned to this property," says Brown.

"I am stuck , as well as all these neighbors here who have to live with this, they're stuck , anyone who comes to visit them , they should not be subjected to this . But I thank you and I thank your news agency for at least coming out 39:23 39:26 making this a priority, because it's bad , it's really bad," says Brown.

As for the truck and trailer hitch parked on the public road, the Bexar County Sheriff's Office did come out and red tag those vehicles. The owner has 48 hours to remove them, otherwise the sheriff's office will be back and tow them away.
