New data from the Colorado Department of Health shows El Paso County leads in COVID-19 deaths

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - On Wednesday the Colorado Department of Public Health released numbers that show El Paso County leads Colorado in COVID-19 deaths since the pandemic began.

In totality, El Paso County has had over 200,000 reported cases and nearly 2,000 deaths. In the past, the county has had a history of falling behind when it comes to vaccinations.

The report from the Colorado Health Department shows there were 2,805 cases reported just this week and dozens who are currently hospitalized.

The current dominant strain of COVID-19 is the KP.3.1.1 variant which has increasingly been found in the cases of COVID.

The CDC recommends staying up to date on your vaccinations as cases of COVID-19, the flu, and r-s-v are expected to rise during the colder seasons, in part because people are spending more time indoors.
