JACKSON, MI – A new councilmember will fill the Ward 5 seat on Jackson City Council following the Tuesday, Nov. 5 general election. Ward residents have elected candidate Christy Davis. She defeated her opponent Todd Moore, receiving 749 votes, while Moore received 470, according to unofficial Jackson County election results. According to her campaign website , Davis has lived in Jackson with her daughter since 2006. She works from home for Henry Ford Jackson Hospital and attends Jackson Free Methodist Church in Vandercook Lake. This is her first time running for office, she said, adding her main goals will be to foster a community of compassion, communication and connection. Specifically, she'd like to keep residents informed on city issues and create a directory of small businesses and nonprofits. This will help residents in Ward 5 better navigate organizations and businesses they can reach for services, such as Residents in Action or the Jackson Interfaith Shelter. "I just want people to reach out," Davis said. "There really are a lot of resources, churches and nonprofit groups that want to help, and they want to be a part of the solution." She will serve a partial term. Shalanda Hunt - the current Ward 5 representative - was disqualified from running in the Aug. 6 primary election due to a paperwork error.Related: Incumbent's paperwork snafu prompts hasty move to fill Jackson City Council seat Davis will inherit the role in December and complete the remainder the term, which ends Dec. 31, 2025.
