The mother of a 2-month-old girl has died in Maryland two days after she was injured in a tragic incident involving a golf cart, police have confirmed.

On Saturday, Nov. 9 at approximately 7:24 p.m. local time, Anne Arundel County Police Department officers were called to the 600 block of Maid Marion Hill in Annapolis to help assist an injured person, according to a release .

"A preliminary investigation revealed that Mary Blasetti had sustained life-threatening injuries in an incident involving an E-Z-GO golf cart," police stated. They added that Blasetti was "airlifted to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center" before dying from her injuries on Monday, Nov. 11.

Police identified Blasetti, 32, of Annapolis as the passenger in the cart, in the release, but didn't name the driver of the vehicle, who was listed as a 32-year-old female from Crownsville.

Anne Arundel County Police Department's Justin Mulcahy said of the tragic incident, "It appears at a certain point they hit some sort of a dip, and at that point, that passenger was ejected from that golf cart or thrown from the golf cart," per WJZ News .

"This is an extremely tragic, unfortunate situation," Mulcahy continued, reported the outlet. "Our hearts go out to everyone impacted and we're going to continue investigating it with the State's Attorney's Office just to determine what exactly happened here."

Mulcahy didn't immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE for additional information.

Loved ones started a GoFundMe , confirming Blasetti had been involved in "a tragic accident," adding that she "leaves behind her husband, Nick Blasetti, and their 2-month-old daughter, Mary Katharine Blasetti."

"Mary Beth brought joy to so many and had a wide community of friends and family who are devastated by her sudden passing. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her," the description said.

The GoFundMe added that Mary Beth and her husband Nick had recently purchased their first home together in Annapolis.

"Nick and Mary Katharine will have plenty to navigate over the course of the next few months, so we'd like to soften that burden by helping them financially," the description added, thanking people for their "love and support during this difficult time."

The GoFundMe, set up by Olivia McKenna, has raised over $276,000 as of Thursday, Nov. 14.
