On Your Side helps Surprise woman get $1,446 security deposit returned

SURPRISE, AZ (AZFamily) — A Surprise woman moved out of her apartment complex and was expecting to get her security deposit returned in full, but four months later, she's still waiting.

So she called On YOur Side for help.

Lucinda Florez moved in with relatives nearly four months ago and finds herself still unpacking some of her things.

Before she moved, Florez lived at a place called The Pointe at South Mountain.

She says she enjoyed the complex, but living on the second floor had become too much for her health.

"I had surgery on my right lung. And so my pulmonologist said, you know, a second story is probably not the best thing for you," Florez told On Your Side.

Florez gave proper notice to move out and then deep-cleaned her apartment.

She even videotaped the entire apartment to document how clean she had left it.

Lucinda was expecting to get her $1,446 deposit returned.

In fact, the apartment complex gave her two statements indicating a refund: one for around $200 and the other for $1,200.

But after waiting nearly four months and constantly calling The Pointe at South Mountain, she never got her money.

So, she contacted On Your Side.

"I'm sure you're feeling like 'Like, where's my money?" On Your Side's Gary Harper asked Florez.

"Exactly. I'm like, you know, how much longer do I have to wait?" She replied.

On Your Side got involved and contacted The Pointe at South Mountain.

It turned out that the complex had changed property management companies about the time Florez was moving, and her refund fell through the cracks.

But after On Your Side's involvement, Florez got two checks totaling just over $1,446, her full deposit.

Florez says it only happened because of On Your Side.

"I think you're awesome. I think you, you do really good (work). And as far as getting the results, I mean, I owe it all to you, because, really, I was getting nowhere," she said.
