One person dead after early morning shooting in Southport

Update: The Chemung County Sheriff's Office has provided an update on the reported homicide that occurred early Friday morning in Southport.

Authorities report that deputies were called to the home on Richard Street on Friday at 12:46 a.m. for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival at the scene, deputies say they learned that there was a birthday party at the home that consisted of 30 to 50 people.

At some point during the party, deputies say that a person, who was identified as a male, was shot multiple times outside the home by another person who left the scene in a vehicle. Deputies say that the victim died shortly afterward as a result of the injuries he sustained.

Deputies report that the shooting was targeted and not a random act. An investigation into the incident is ongoing at this time.

The Chemung County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who lives in or around the area where the shooting took place who heard, saw or may have security footage of any activity around the time of the incident to contact the Sheriff's Office Investigation Division at 607-737-2933.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Elmira Police Department, Elmira Heights Police Department, Horseheads Village Police Department, West Elmira Police Department, New York State Police and the Schuyler County Sheriff's Office K-9 team.

SOUTHPORT, N.Y. ( WETM ) – Members of the Chemung County Sheriff's Office have been spotted at the scene of what they have confirmed to have been a homicide on Friday morning in Southport.

As reported by an 18 News reporter at the scene, a heavy police presence has been spotted at a home on Richard Street in Southport for a homicide that is believed to have occurred in the morning on Friday, Nov. 15.

Multiple sheriff and detective vehicles have responded to the scene, and members of both departments have been seen leaving and entering the home. At the time of publishing, the road in front of the house has been blocked off and crime tape has been placed along the property.
