Newly released police body camera footage shows Pat Mahomes Sr. , the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes , expressing concern that his arrest would negatively impact his son ahead of Super Bowl LVIII.

"Can I say one thing?" he said in the footage obtained and shared by TMZ Sports on Friday (October 18). "My son is getting ready to play in the f–king Super Bowl, OK? Just listen to me. I am not drunk. I promise you. I've had some drinks. But he can't have this right now. Listen, this can't happen...Patrick Mahomes."

"We've never had a star here in this area and now we got a chance to be a star and now we going to have a scandal now," he added. "... We're gonna have a scandal for no f**king reason because my registration when he gifted me the car hasn't gotten in yet, which would probably be in in the next day or two."

Mahomes, 53, was busted for driving with an invalid license in Tyler, Texas, on June 29, less than five months after being arrested for driving while intoxicated in the same city, according to court documents obtained by TMZ Sports at the time. The former Major League Baseball pitcher was reportedly pulled over for disregarding traffic signs and cited for driving without a proper driver's license.

The former pitcher has been arrested for DUI/DWI three times and faces up to 10 years in prison for his latest arrest. The state of Texas is notoriously strict on DUI/DWI punishment as first-time offender can face up to a $2,000 fine and 120 days in county jail in adherence with Texas state law.

Mahomes' attorney reportedly discussed a plea deal to get his punishment changed to 10 years probation, KLTV reported in July. The 53-year-old's arrest came eight days before his son led the Chiefs to their third Super Bowl in five years.

The elder Mahomes was in attendance as his son won his third Super Bowl, throwing for 333 yards, two touchdowns and one interception on 34 of 47 passing. Patrick Mahomes is widely regarded as the best quarterback in the NFL and the face of the league, having won two Associated Press regular-season MVP awards and three Super Bowl MVPs in eight seasons.
