Dylan Buell/ Police in Braintree, Massachusetts, arrested New England Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers on Saturday following an alleged assault, according to Matt Schooley of WBZ News.

NBC10 Boston's Marc Fortier reported police responded to a disturbance on Saturday morning. Based on their preliminary investigation, Peppers potentially faces charges of assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation and possession of cocaine.

The Patriots addressed the situation with a brief statement:

Peppers didn't feature in the Patriots' 15-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 5. He missed practice last Wednesday due to a shoulder injury and then was limited on Thursday and Friday. Listed as questionable in New England's injury report , the team confirmed before kickoff he was out.

Through four starts, the 29-year-old has 23 tackles, one interception and two pass breakups.

The Patriots signed Peppers to a three-year, $24 million extension in the offseason. Head coach Jerod Mayo told reporters in July the veteran defensive back "really embodies everything that you want on the field" and is "very selfless out there."
