Potential Tropical Cyclone 9 has formed

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Potential Tropical Cyclone 9 is moving toward the Gulf of Mexico from the Northern Caribbean Sea. This system will become Tropical Storm Helene Tuesday morning.

It will quickly intensify as the low pressure system enters the warm Gulf water. It is projected to become a category one hurricane by Wednesday morning.

FORECAST: Middle Tennessee & Southern KentuckyWeather

Most models are showing this tropical system becoming a Category 2 Hurricane on Wednesday evening, and making landfall in Florida on Thursday.

Locally, the remnants/center of low pressure could pass to the east of Middle Tennessee, bringing heavy rain and gusty winds. Since we are several days out, the timing and track will change. We will keep you posted as more information is available.
