Power restored after Mylar balloon causes outage in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — More than 2,000 Entergy New Orleans customers were briefly without power after a Mylar balloon caused an outage on Sunday, Oct. 6.

According to a social media post from the New Orleans City Council Utilities Committee, about 2,150 customers near Washington Avenue, Milan, St. Mary and Tchoupitoulas streets were impacted by the outage around 1:15 p.m.

The post states that Entergy reported that power has since been restored to the area around.

According to the City Council Utilities Committee, Entergy New Orleans "reports that interference with a Mylar balloon caused the outage."

On Aug. 7, Entergy New Orleans reported that a Mylar balloon caused a power outage at a Carrollton water plant , leading to a boil water advisory for the entire East Bank of New Orleans and Algiers Point.
