The high school golf postseason begins today at Fox Hill Country Club when the Wyoming Valley Conference Pre-District Tournament tees off.

This season, the format is different than the past.

For the first time in history, there will be more than one boys champion crowned. That’s because the PIAA changed to two classifications in the offseason. So now there will be more chances for the 91 participants in today’s tournament to advance to the District Tournament, which will be held October 8 at Fox Hill Country Club.

Holy Redeemer leads the charge in Class 2A with Mariano Medico, Chase Makowski and Matt Slavoski expected to be at or near the top of the leaderboard. The trio should get strong competition from Meyers’ Will Amesbury and Wyoming Area’s Zach Mulhern. The top 18 finishers in 2A will advance to districts.

The 3A portion of today’s event could be more interesting with Chris McCue (Wyoming Valley West), Ryan Tracy (Pittston Area) and Shamus Gartley (Coughlin) among others as strong contenders to bring home the medal. The first 16 placewinners in 3A will move on to districts.

There are also girls events being held in each classification and half of the female participants will move on to districts.

Here are the pairings for today’s pre-district tournament:

CLASS 2A

CLASS 3A
