Redneck Culinary Academy raises money for area VFDs
WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — After several days of rain through Texoma, people are happy to be free of dry conditions.
The Wichita County volunteer fire departments played vital roles in keeping the community safe before the rain came.

As a thank-you for their efforts, the Redneck Culinary Academy held a fundraiser.
Several area VFDs in Wichita County benefitted from the Redneck Culinary Academy's fish fry at the Knights of Columbus Hall off Turtle Creek Rd.
For a $20 donation, the Redneck Culinary Academy hooked up donators and hungry firefighters alike with freshly fried catfish filets, hushpuppies, and more.
Lee Harvey, founder of the Redneck Culinary Academy, wanted to make sure the VFDs around Wichita County were thanked for their hard work and remembered how vital they were in putting out a recent wildfire near Burkburnett.
"That fire turned into a small fire and into a major fire in a matter of minutes. And it took them all night to get it contained," Harvey said. "If we hadn't had our volunteer fire departments and the Texas Forestry Service, the river bottom probably would have caught on fire. And once the river bottom gets on fire, you can't fight that fire."
Six different volunteer fire departments participated in the fundraiser. Wichita West, Wichita East, Iowa Park, Kamay, Friberg-Cooper, and Cameron Gardens all benefitted from the efforts of the Redneck Culinary Academy. On top of the fish fry, the redneck culinary academy also held a gun raffle.
All of the money raised at the fish fry will go toward fuel, tires, and other maintenance for the vehicles at each respective fire department.
