Sandwich factory could boost Bradford economy

A sandwich manufacturer is planning to invest millions in a new factory that could create 400 jobs and "provide a positive impact on the Bradford economy".

Submitting a planning application for the factory and office space near the M606, Tiffin Sandwiches said it was "proud of its Bradford roots".

The firm's operation manager Luke Tetley said the company was looking to create new jobs for the area.

"We are very excited by the opportunity to build a brand new bespoke factory at our Bradford site," he said.

The factory will cost between £8m and £10m and be built next to its current headquarters on Commondale Way.

Tiffin Sandwiches is one of the UK's largest independent, food-to-go manufacturers, with more than 20 years' experience, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service .

It provides food to more than 2,000 businesses, universities, colleges and schools across the country.

The Commondale Way site is currently used as a lorry park, and the factory would consolidate the two existing sites the firm currently rents.

Mr Tetley said: "As a Bradford based company, we are proud of our roots and hope to continue having a positive impact on the Bradford economy."

The application includes plans for solar panels and the use of renewable energy.

The planning application said: "It will provide significant economic investment, which will result in the continued employment of local people and provision of local services already established in the area."

A decision on the application is expected before the end of the year.
