Scammer Tries Withdrawing $150K From Glen Rock Resident's Bank: Police Glen Rock residents reported two scams to police last week, they said.

GLEN ROCK, NJ — If you miss a call from your bank, you might want to follow up. A Glen Rock resident did so last week and may have saved their savings.

Glen Rock police reported that last Wednesday, a resident told them that they "were alerted by their bank of an unauthorized $150,000 withdrawal from their account."

Before transferring the money, the bank contacted the resident for approval.

The bank was able to cancel the transfer in time when the person responded.

Police said, "The identity of the individual attempting the transaction also appeared to have been hacked. The matter has been referred to the Detective Bureau for review."

That wasn't the only attempted scam that a Glen Rock resident reported last week.

On Sunday, a Glen Rock couple told police that someone emailed them saying "Malware was installed on their phone and that they would share compromised information unless the complainant pays $1,950 through bitcoin."

Police said, "The email received was generic in nature and is similar to others reported to law enforcement under similar circumstances. As of this time the complainant has sent no money in response to the email, and there is no evidence to support that their data has been compromised."

Police gave a warning: "The public is advised never to send payments in response to these types of scams which are very common."

Glen Rock police said that from Nov. 4-10, they handled 399 calls for service.
