Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina was elected to be the next by his Republican colleagues Wednesday. He had previously for the role on Nov. 8.

Scott, a close ally of President-elect Donald Trump, will also head the Senate Banking Committee.

"I am honored and humbled by the confidence placed in me to protect and grow our Republican majority," said Senator Scott in a press release. "With President Trump in the White House and Republican leadership in Congress, help is on the way for the American people. Donald J. Trump proved that when we fight everywhere with the TRUTH, we win. That is why we must secure a Republican Senate for all four years of the Trump administration, and that work starts today!"

Scott's office said the senator campaigned with "every top U.S. Senate candidate" and helped raise millions for Republicans up and down ballots this election season.

Scott ran in the 2024 Republican presidential primary along with former Palmetto State governor Nikky Haley, before he eventually and endorsed Donald Trump. He is a popular figure among President-elect Trump's base, even being touted as a before the selection of Ohio senator JD Vance.

Senator Scott's Great Opportunity PAC lead a over the summer leading up to Election Day in an effort to reach out to Black and other nonwhite working-class voters and win them over to vote for Trump. Before the announcement of Scott's outreach campaign, the now President-elect also made an appearance at a Black conservative gala in February 2024 in Scott's home state of South Carolina.

"Senator Scott has been a champion for conservative Republicans in South Carolina and around the country for over a decade in the US Senate," said South Carolina GOP Chairman Drew McKissick. "His work speaks for itself, in particular, his Opportunity Zones initiative that continues to bring economic success to struggling communities across our country."

Scott's office said he looks forward to partnering with President-elect Trump to enact their agenda and continue to grow the Republican Senate majority in 2026.
