It looks like wintry weather will briefly loosen its grip on the Wyoming Valley, but its hiatus won’t be a long one.

The National Weather Service indicated that it was 19 degrees as of 6:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport. Light snow continued to fall in parts of the region this morning, causing some slow traffic on the major roadway and interstates.

Scattered snow showers are predicted before 1 p.m. today, followed by a chance of flurries into the late afternoon hours. Less than half an inch of snow is expected, and today’s high will only be in the lower 20s. Gusty winds of up to 24 miles per hour are also possible.

Mostly cloudy skies will make for a quieter night tonight, with a high in the lower teens. The wind chill could make it feel as low as -1 degrees.

Sunny skies will return to the Wyoming Valley on Wednesday, with a high in the mid 20s. The wind chill could once again make it feel like -1 degrees. Clear skies will follow into Wednesday night, with a low around 7 degrees.

Mostly cloudy skies will return on Thursday, along with a 30 percent chance of snow after 1 p.m. No precipitation amounts have been predicted. Thursday’s high will be near 30 degrees.

Snow will be likely on Thursday night, with a 70 percent chance of precipitation predicted. No precipitation amounts have been predicted. Thursday night’s low will be in the mid to upper 20s.
