Nebraska

"The volleyball state" represented well in both Division I and II

If you were with us on Sunday night, you would know I talked about the three Division I schools in Nebraska (there are only three, by the way) made the NCAA Volleyball Championship.

Nebraska is the top overall seed, Creighton is a 3-seed and Omaha is looking put 4th-seeded Kansas on upset alert.

Three teams, out of 64, reside in Nebraska, something Huskers head coach John Cook was very proud of on Sunday night, following the Selection Show.

"We got three schools in the NCAA Tournament now, so I think this is huge for the State of Nebraska," Cook said. "All three Division I programs are in the NCAA Tournament, so congrats to those guys. Nebraskans have a lot to be proud of. I mean, we are the volleyball state."

It's more than just those three. Cook also gave praise to Division II UNK and Wayne State, two teams that are in the Central Region of the NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship. Both the Lopers and Wildcats could meet up in round two, setting up a rematch from the exhibition at Volleyball Day in Nebraska on Aug. 30.

On Thursday, UNK plays Southwest Minnesota State at noon; WSC plays at 2:30 against Minnesota-Duluth; and Omaha faces Kansas at 7 p.m.

On Friday, Nebraska and Creighton get going. The Huskers host LIU on Friday at 7 p.m., and the Bluejays battle Colgate at 6:30 p.m.
