This Crossroads parking lot will soon house apartments with affordable units, rooftop deck
New apartments will replace an old city lot in the Crossroads.
Grayson Capitol and city officials staged a groundbreaking on Wednesday for the future Mohawk at 15 in the Crossroads Arts District, off East 15th Street and Holmes Street near The Truman. The mixed-use project will feature 189 units and 6,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor.
The five-story Mohawk at 15 will also include an enclosed parking garage, electric vehicle charging stations, access to bike and car sharing, and public transit access alongside a rooftop deck, a dog park and a fitness center.
The development received $925,000 from the Kansas City Housing Trust Fund. Twenty percent of its units will be for residents living at or under 60% of the area median income, which in Kansas City is $43,320 for one person, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development .
Mohawk will take over a former city-owned property, which includes parking lots and a building previously used for the police department, that sold for $400,000 and other future payments, according to city documents.
The development will be within walking distance of downtown and the Main Street streetcar.
Mohawk at 15 is expected to open in 2026. Floor plans are expected to include studios, one-bedrooms and two-bedrooms.
