Toddler girl possibly caught in crossfire of west Birmingham shootout, rushed to hospital

A toddler girl was injured when she was possibly caught in the crossfire of a Birmingham shootout Sunday night. Birmingham police were notified at 6:45 p.m. that an 18-month-old girl was at Children's of Alabama. She had been driven there in a private vehicle. Officer Truman Fitzgerald said her condition is not life-threatening. The preliminary investigation suggests there may have been a shootout in Wylam, and the child was caught in crossfire while riding in a vehicle. Police believe the shooting happened near Lexington Street and Seventh Avenue in Wylam. The investigation is in its early stages and no arrests have been made.
