Tougaloo College receives $8 million grant

JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Tougaloo College was awarded an $8,000,000 grant by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for the establishment of the Tougaloo College Biomedical Research & Training Center.

The investment grant is part of the NIH Research Facilities Construction Grants program. According to officials, the funding will support the construction of a state-of-the-art research facility, enhancing biomedical research and training capacity at Tougaloo College. The center will provide vital resources and opportunities for students and researchers, fostering growth and innovation in biomedical sciences.

The project will be directed by Dr. Josiah J. Sampson, III.

"I am thrilled to see Tougaloo College receive this substantial support from the NIH," said Congressman Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.). "This investment not only advances biomedical research but also creates invaluable educational and professional opportunities for students in our district.
