Urgent police appeal after teenage girl is 'chased down the road by man and forced into a car'

Police have launched an urgent appeal for information after a teenage girl was seemingly chased down a road and forced into a car.

The girl, believed to be in her mid-to-late teens and standing at roughly 5ft 5ins tall, was witnessed by members of the public being followed and forced into a vehicle in Somerset.

Leaving the vehicle, its driver allegedly chased the young girl on foot before she was bundled into the back of the car.

The exact location of the incident according to Avon and Somerset Police was the junction connecting The Batch and Shadwell Lane in the town of Wincanton.

Police have described the driver of the vehicle as white, aged in his early 20's, of medium build, with light brown hair and as being slightly taller than the girl.

The car in question was a dark-coloured, five-door hatchback and it is believed there were multiple people inside at the time of the apparent abduction.

Speaking to the incident, Neighbourhood Inspector Rose Green said: 'This will understandably cause significant concern and a thorough investigation is already well underway to fully establish the circumstances and ensure the girl is safe'.

Inspector Green added that enquiries were ongoing with police having already viewed CCTV footage in the area.

She went on to encourage anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to come forward.

Additionally, any persons with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident (10.30pm) has been asked to contact authorities.
