RICHARDSON, Texas — The University of Texas at Dallas has canceled class for the remainder of Monday due to a power outage, the school said.

Just after 6 p.m., UT Dallas said in an X (formally Twitter) pos t that multiple buildings on campus had been affected by a power outage. The phone lines were down at the UT Dallas police department and the school urged students with emergencies to call 911 or contact the Richardson Police Department directly.

By 7:45 p.m. UT Dallas canceled all evening classes and activities and closed dining halls.

"Due to the power outage on campus, all dining locations at the SU will be closed for the remainder of the night. DHW will remain open with limited stations. We apologize for the inconvenience," UT Dallas said.

It's unclear what caused the outage, a timeline of when power will be restored, and when classes will resume.

"We are working now to restore power to campus and investigate the cause of the outage. Notifications to campus will be made if classes are affected tomorrow," the university said in a statement to WFAA.

Around 10 p.m., a UT Dallas spokesperson told WFAA that the majority of the buildings have regained power, but some of the dorms are still without.

The school said the latest updates will be posted on its website and social media pages .
