Will morning clouds keep Portland’s high temps down a few degrees Tuesday?

Tuesday is expected to be a hot day with most forecasters expecting highs to reach about 90 degrees.

But the National Weather Service couched those bets early Tuesday in the morning forecast discussion with a caveat that morning clouds could stick around long enough to temper those highs a few degrees. Current temperature spread is expected from 85-92 degrees in the greater Portland/Vancouver areas.

That said, Portland reached 82 degrees on Monday as measured at the International Airport - three degrees warmer than expected.

Sunny skies are likely by at least the afternoon Tuesday under a ridge of high pressure that will build throughout the day. The official high is expected to hit 89 degrees.

If late season hot weather isn't your cup of tea, temperatures will dive about 25 degrees on Wednesday as an incoming system packing rain and cool air moves south from the Gulf of Alaska.

Portland has a chance of rain before 11 a.m., then will see showers during the afternoon. The steady temperature will hold at about 64 degrees all day. Winds will be out of the southwest at about 5-10 mph.

Thursday will see a mix of morning showers and then partly sunny skies. The high will warm to near 71 degrees.

Friday brings a mix of clouds and sun with highs reaching about 70 degrees.

Current long-range forecasts are showing dry skies over the weekend with another ridge of high pressure building into the region. Daytime high temps, however, will remain seasonal with highs in the upper 60s-to-low 70s.
