A woman on federal fraud probation has been arrested after she allegedly falsely impersonated a registered nurse who was hired by Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital as well as Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank.

In May 2024, the Burbank Police Department first received reports of a woman, Amanda Porter 44, from Virginia who allegedly impersonated a registered nurse at Saint Joseph Medical Center, according to a statement from the Burbank Police Department.

"Porter applied for and obtained the nursing position at Saint Joseph Medical Center, then began overseeing approximately 60 patients that came under her care between April 8, 2024, and May 8, 2024," the Burbank Police Department statement said.

Hospital staff at Saint Joseph Medical Center soon discovered Porter was impersonating an actual registered nurse, who lived out of state.

"By the time Porter was terminated, she received two paychecks for the time she was fraudulently employed," according to Burbank Police.

During this investigation, detectives learned that Porter continued to obtain employment with various local hospitals including Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital using a variety of false identities.

"In early October we learned that an employee falsified documents to obtain employment with our hospital.," said Patrick Moody, a spokesperson for Henry Mayo. "Once discovered, we took immediate and appropriate action, including terminating her employment and reporting to regulatory and law enforcement authorities. The person in question was in the probationary phase of employment with our organization and under the supervision of a nurse preceptor during this time period. We do not have any indication the quality of care patients received was compromised."

On Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024, the Burbank Police Department arrested Porter pursuant to an arrest warrant after she bonded out of custody after being captured by deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station in connection to Henry Mayo's case.

On Nov. 12, 2024, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office filed charges of Identity Theft, False Impersonation, and Grand Theft; all felonies, against Porter.

On Nov. 13, 2024, Porter was arraigned and is currently being held without bail at the Los Angeles County Central Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood.

It is believed that Porter may have committed additional similar offenses in the Southern California area during the past year.

If you believe you have seen Porter in any medical facility you are encouraged to contact your local law enforcement agency or Burbank Police Detective Arias at (818) 238-3210.
